The Old Marigold Theater (2017)
A whimsical point-and-click environment, preserved in glorious 480p
The only known video recording to still exist of an interactive multimedia project I made using Adobe Animate and Photoshop. Originally a point and click, this is merely a screen recording of me back in 2017 clicking around the environment. It used to have audio (characteristic grunts in place of dialogue, ambient sounds, etc.) but that has since been lost to time.
The text at the end reads:
The Old Marigold Theatre is an interactive, digital environment inspired by the works of Sylvain Chomet, George Melies, and Wes Anderson.
The theatre takes place in a whimsical, surrealist world where fantastical creatures (including dragons, apes, and moom men) come from near and far to watch the grand performance of a man hunched over a desk, clicking a single key on a typewriter at a slow pace.
The dissonance between the fantastical and the mundane is the focal point of this piece, and was created using Adobe Photoshop and After Effects by Gage Smith.

Rats in the Walls
rodent stealth and survival from the walls of a haunted human manor
Rats in the Walls is a tabletop roleplaying game. The rules are based on Blades in the Dark by John Harper. Its many inspirations include The Borrowers, Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, and Little Nightmares. The closed-off interior setting of the manor gives Rats an “urban fantasy” flavor quite unlike the pastoral settings of other rodent roleplaying games like Mausritter, Mouse Guard, Redwall, or Root.
The game has been a labor of love, designed by Kevin Meeks, Keenan Taylor, and myself for over three years, and is still in active development, with more details set to release soon.

For Gloom The Bell Tolls
a kooky, gloomy D&D one-shot adventure on an island of fish
For Gloom The Bell Tolls is a whimsical D&D one-shot mystery adventure about an island of fish-people plagues by a mysterious illness, written by Jon Baker and myself. It is quite simple and linear, but I've run it at least eight times and each time has been a blast.
You can read the adventure here.
Here's a preview (spoilers ahead!):

Attack of the 50 Ft Fiasco!
presented in glorious, stereoscopic sound
Back in 2014, my friend Tim and I created a Fiasco playset inspired by 50's science fiction and horror B-movies, and the works inspired by it, called Attack of the 50 ft Fiasco!.
Suitably for the genre, it was made in a single night before springing to life in ways we didn't plan or expect. The game has been played on various podcasts, at live events, and was translated into German by Kai-Olaf Swieca.
